Frequently Asked Questions
How many girls will make the team?
There is no set answer to that. All of the scores are arranged from highest to lowest. The team is decided where there is the largest variance in scores. Those who do not make the team can be considered for the Junior Varsity (JV) team.
If I don't make Bandoleras, will I automatically make the training Team ("Baby-leras")?
No. All of those who audition but do not make Bandoleras will be considered for the training team but that does not mean they will make the team.
How much does Bandoleras/ "Baby-leras" cost?
Cost varies from year to year. Rookies (new members) pay the most, but each year, the price will go down significantly. There will be fundraisers held throughout the year to assist with expenses.
Members of the "Baby-leras" pay significantly less than the Bandoleras and all items can be re-used should a "Baby-lera" make the Bandoleras team at a later time.
What will the audition be like?
You will audition in groups of 3 or 4 in front of 3 SBISD approved judges with significant dance backgrounds.
What will I wear to the clinic?
You may wear any type of fitted top, dance pants, workout pants, or leggings (NO SHORTS ALLOWED) and jazz shoes, dance paws, or go barefoot. Hair must be worn in a ponytail.
What will I wear to auditions?
You MUST wear a black leotard or fitted black workout/dance top and black dance pants, workout pants, or black leggings. NO SHORTS ALLOWED. You may audition in jazz shoes, dance paws or go barefoot. Hair must be worn in a ponytail. Wear light make-up. You MUST be in ALL black.
How will I know if I made the team?
Results of the audition will be posted the same day on this website on the auditions page. ALL decisions are final.
Once I make the team how long do I have to pay off my balance?
A payment plan will be established where you will make 1-2 payments each month (April-September/October). Graduating Seniors will also be selling their dance team items to those interested in purchasing gently used items.
How much does the team practice?
The Bandoleras practice A LOT. We practice year-round. In the summer we have MANDATORY boot camp and team camp to train and learn choreography for football season. During the school year we practice from 7th period to 5:30, and occasionally on Saturdays during competition season (Spring Semester).
"Baby-leras" practice occasionally after school when they are approaching one of their performance opportunities.
Can I do Bandoleras and a sport too?
Unfortunately, Bandoleras is a year round commitment so it is not possible to be in another sport. We have had Bandoleras successfully manage AP classes and full time jobs. Bandoleras must be aware that they do not have an off season, and are expected to manage their time well. Being a Bandolera is a great time commitment and will require hard work and sacrifice.
What is the best thing I can do to prepare for auditions?
Although it's not required, enroll in a dance class at school or at a dance studio. There are several great dance studios in the area, I would get in as many classes as time and money will allow. If that is not possible, the best advice is to start stretching and dancing or ask a current Bandolera to help you prepare for auditions. They will have the best insight on how to prepare!
Also, make sure you listen to announcements at school and visit our site so we can keep you posted on the latest news and updates about auditions!
